North Korea Appears to Conduct Fifth Nuclear Test

North Korea Appears to Conduct Fifth Nuclear Test

Civilians and soldiers watched a television broadcast of an artificial earthquake in North Korea that was detected in Seoul.

Just months after its last nuclear test, North Korea is about to have another nuclear test, this news just came out hours after president Obama’s tour to Asia. U.S. Geographer had detected a 5.3 earthquake near North Korea’s nuclear test center early Friday. According to South Korea’s defense ministry, the earthquake is caused by explosion that is possible nuclear detonation that equals to 10 kilotons of TNT. After the tour to Asia, president Obama said he would continue to find a way to reduce threat from North Korea during his final four months in the office. But he knows that it’s greatly difficult to make progress on reducing the threat from dictator Kim Jong Un. On the same site, North Korea detonated another nuclear device in January; Kim Jong Un himself called it a test of a powerful hydrogen bomb. But experts said that this test is no different from North Korea’s 3 other “ less-powerful’ atom bomb tests since 2006. Kim Jong Un also stated about being able to hit South Korea, Japan and US bases in Asia with nuclear-tipped missiles. Even if North Korea’s military based is destroyed, experts said that North Korea would still be able to threaten its enemies by North Korea’s gaining capacity of its nuclear power. The experts even stated that after 2 or 3 years, North Korea would have the power to hit North America Continental with its nuclear-tipped missile. After North Korea’s nuclear test, South Korea declared that they will deploy a US built advance missile defend shield by the end of 2017. But the real problem is if North Korea has the ability to put nuclear weapon into a missile that can fly that far to hit US. Just by doing tests cannot indicate that North Korea do have the power to nuke US. President Obama even discussed with China to work more closely with US to tackle North Korea’s threat.

  1. What do you believe could happen? This is a very interesting article mostly because I had not heard about this news before. What do you think that is North Korea's ultimate goal?

  2. North Korea's ambition for power could definitely unchain World War three. I have been following N. Korea's leader actions for years and in my opinion KIM JUNG-UN is probably using his last resource in a desperate final bid to avoid the collapse of his dictatorship. North Korea's ultimate goal besides power is to gain international acceptance and recognition using his nuclear weapons.
