Might Google Have a Sly Motive Behind Motorola?
Frankly speaking, it's a fascinating theory, but not sure it's so sly. Surely they've seen the size and growth expectations of the lower end phone market, particularly in emerging markets, and are building hardware for that? That meets their internet-for-all goal as well. Plus, I could almost believe this theory if the Moto X had been introduced with a $99 contract price. However, Google Motorola didn't do that. They introduced the phone with a $199 contract price which generated a lot of negative press and now the Moto X is out of the news. Who cares. Google Motorola blew their opportunity. Of course Motorola is good at blowing opportunities. They had the opportunity to create the Android tablet market with the Xoom tablet but they priced it as high as the iPad. Everyone was disappointed and quickly forgot the Xoom and Motorola.
