Spotify is expanding its market to include Taiwan. Spotify is based in Stockholm, Sweden and has more than 24 million active users. Spotify chose to expand into the Asian market because it has continually reported losses. Its’ main competitors are Google’s You-Tube which offers online music for free. Due to the expansion, Spotify’s revenue has more than doubled but its costs of sales have also increased rapidly causing the company to report a loss. Opening a service in a new market requires significant amount of upfront costs which Spotify hopes to recover in the upcoming years of service.
