Qatar Airways the Biggest Loser in Doha Airport Delay

when its opened?

Well, it was supposed to open a few years ago, but was pushed back. Then it was going to open last year but it didn’t and Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker blamed Lindner Depa Interiors for the delay, adding that his airline was filing a $600 million legal claim against the German-Emirati construction company.

Then a big launch was pencilled in for April 1 this year, which was cancelled at the last minute. Now, the new airport is not expected to open until early next year.

the biggest loser here could be Qatar Airways, which is rapidly trying to build an aviation transit hub in the Middle East to compete with the established success of Dubai and the lofty ambitions of Abu Dhabi.

Qatar is creating a strategy around hubbing and without an airport they cannot fulfil that strategy.
